Sophie Montagne was part of the first female team to ski across the Antarctic continent, using muscle power alone. Combining her luxury marketing and communications background with the skills she learned on the Ice Maiden expedition, Sophie is adept at translating the challenges she faced on the ice into a business context. She focusses in particular on dealing with Imposter Syndrome, confidence, resilience, communication, team dynamics, psychological safety and maintaining mission focus in high pressured situations.
A London-based desk-dweller that hates the cold, she was the least likely candidate for a record-breaking polar team. Breaking every boundary she had ever known, from conquering a fear of falling by jumping into crevasses, to facing commuters’ smirks as she dragged her training tyre across central London on her way to work, she was selected from 250 candidates for the final team of six. The Ice Maidens’ two month journey, culminating in January 2018, broke three world records and provides a fascinating insight into the key components for a successful team.
