The Developing Leader Programme

The Sandstone Developing Leader programme has been designed to equip employees eligible for promotion with the skills they need to become effective leaders. It enables them to deal with the complex communication and motivational issues that leadership rôles bring with them.

The programme is particularly valuable for organisations such as lawyers, accountants, or estate agents which have structures through which the majority of employees are expected to progress over time.The courses are, however, equally valuable for employers who wish to identify and train employees in leadership skills in any organisation.

The topics covered on these courses are:

  • what is leadership - a 2 day gateway module
  • making it work - managing flexible working practices
  • presentation skills
  • communication for leaders
  • what is strategy
  • developing a high performance team
  • resilience and motivation
  • difficult conversations
  • strengths finder - how to build on your strengths.

This course is delivered in 10 days over a set period. The gateway module is delivered first, then the other modules can be delivered in any order. Delegates must complete all the modules. Some of our clients specify successful completion as a prerequisite for promotion to director, partner etc..

Delegates will acquire a toolkit of practical leadership skills which can be applied immediately.

We run 1/2 Day, 1 day and 2 day Leadership Development training courses

Offsite Leadership Development

We run 1/2 Day, 1 day and 2 day Leadership Development Training Courses in Scotland, or elsewhere to suit the client.

These courses are run in groups of 4 to 6 participants, with no limit on the number of groups.

The courses include practical leadership situations, and can incorporate aerial ropeways, off-road driving courses and practical field exercises which fully engage the participants as they learn leadership skills to use in their everyday business lives.

We also run a Walk and Talk Outward Bound Training Course, where a Sandstone guide teaches leadership and group management skills throughout a day in the stunning Scottish countryside.

Leading Change

We currently live in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) world. Encouraging and learning to manage change can be of paramount importance.

This course enables delegates to see change as an opportunity and teaches them how to manage it.

Utilising the change curve and an understanding of when to manage and when to lead enables delegates to be more effective.

Our delivery team utilise experience gained in high pressure situations across a number of different environments from complex intelligence operations to navigating a business through a global pandemic.

Regaining Momentum

This course is especially important for team leaders where their teams have been operating remotely, missing out on face-to-face interaction.

The session will cover how to redevelop a client intelligence picture and how to utilise a network.

The course can be run as a 1/2 or 1 day format and either at client premises or off-site. In addition the client can add a keynote speaker to the course.

Team Building Workshops

Outcomes:

Practical team-building sessions run by one of our high performance team specialists. Participants will be inspired, motivated and will connect with each other through this shared experience.

Team Building Workshops

Many teams have been working remotely for an extended period of time. Many current team-mates have never physically met each other! It is now vital to re-establish the skills required to operate in a face-to-face environment in order to enable your team to maximise its potential.

These workshops will see your team solving practical problems as a unit. They will leave the session invigorated and inspired. The session will involve a number of practical team-buidling exercises supported by feedback and coaching from the Sandstone team.

The client can choose between a number of our high perfomance team specialists, all of whom have an interesting and inspiring background; participants will be able to talk with them and learn from their experience.

These workshops address:

You can accelerate and enhance the team building process by creating a personality profile for each team member.

DISC personality profiling

If your teams have been working remotely or contain members who have never met before, a personality profiling exercise is very useful in enabling them to more quickly gain a deeper and more effective understanding of each other.

Prior to attending a review session each participant completes an online profiling questionnaire.

This will then be used to help them understand how they best fit into the team, and how to relate to fellow team members.

Each participant receives coaching and feedback on her or his profile, and takes a copy back to the workplace for future reference.
