Sandstone's newest VET-eran recruits!
Chief Instructor Mike Hope has recently spent four days delivering Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) to Farm Vets in Macclesfield.
Upon completion of the course, Mike spoke with their practice manager to get feedback on how the course went.
As a farm practice we are really keen to ensure that all of our vets, nurses, and office support staff have been trained effectively in Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW). That is why Sandstone has delivered our training four times now.
Compared to other first aid courses this one is a lot more hands on. It is not class room based but instead has everyone getting involved in different situations by using real life scenarios that are tailored to our practice and line of work. The tools that have been provided alongside the pace of the course and how it has built up over the day has really given me a lot of confidence to deal with an emergency in the workplace.
Our FTACC-E(EFAW) course exceeds the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) emergency first aid standards. It adopts an innovative approach which ensures retention of knowledge and skills as well as outlining a clear course of action that ensures better patient outcomes.
Incident Management & Communication
It is not just about the first aid. At the beginning of every course learners are walked through a practical exercise based around managing a first aid incident.
This puts into practice the initial steps and actions that should be taken at any first aid incident in and out of the workplace. In this case as shown above: ensuring their own safety and that the scene is safe (knowing how to switch off the farm machinery),communicating with each other and early recognition that the incident requires the assistance of emergency services. Thereafter, how to relay the relative intelligence not information (we haven't even started first aid yet!).
