This week saw Sandstone First Aid back at Hydrasun, Aviemore. This was our second visit to Don Morrison and his team. Day one started with a hands on practical which gave the learners a lesson in what to expect at a major incident. The aim of the exercise was to provide an understanding of how to manage a scene and control those around you, to ensure the best possible outcome for the casualty.

The new cohort then completed a three day First Aid at Work (FAW) course, in which they learnt how to deal with the kind of medical emergencies that would be found in a busy engineering company. Day 2 was an early start, with a scenario based refresher for those members of the company who had attended the previous course. The employees had remembered the lessons from their course and quickly dealt with a medical emergency using the BURPS assessment system, dealing with the traumatic bleed and a cardiac arrest.
