You have 2-3 Minutes to save a life

In the event of a life-threatening bleed, you have just 2 minutes to save a life. Unlike the movies improvised tourniquets are unlikely to work. Where is your first aid kit? Could you get to it and back in the next 2 minutes? Could it be positioned in a better location closer to where the risk is. Is it ready to go or is all the kit still in cellophane wrappers?

In the event of a major bleed, you are going to need your first aid kit, and it is going to need the right kit in it.

The investment by businesses and communities in AED’s is of course fantastic but are we thinking about it operationally – especially in the workplace.

After 3 minutes of the patient going into cardiac arrest the chances of survival greatly reduce. In other words, the AED needs to be applied within 3 minutes of the arrest occurring.
