Where do accidents happen?

Train for reality
Train hard fight easy. Train like it's real. Build muscle memory.

The HSE guidance is often miss interpreted. Whilst it says that in order to refer to a course as Emergency or First Aid at work it must cover certain elements it also states that each organisation should have a first aid assessment and that training and equipment should reflect the environment in which the team are operating.

In other words your training should reflect the situations and environments in which you are operating.

If your team operate in class room then train in a class room...

Whilst the fundamental techniques of first aid are relatively straight forward applying them is not always that simple.

CPR is easy when the patient is flat on their back in a warm dry class room. What would you do if the patient is behind the wheel of a truck or van?

The recovery position is simple and effective but what would you do if the patient is on a slope outdoors, on the stairs or locked in a cubicle?

When training it's really important to create situations that participants may actually face. This way we create muscle memory and equip our people with the best possible chance of responding effectively.
