Lead don't manage!

In high pressure situations people need reassurance and direction. They need leadership, not management, in order to achieve effective outcomes...

We are NOT offering a theoretical management course designed to tick boxes on the way to the next promotion.

The Leadership development programme has been designed to equip participants with a practical toolkit of skills so they can become an effective leader in high pressure and changing situations. It will enable them to deal with the complex communication and motivation issues that leadership roles bring.

The business world is a volatile, complex and ambiguous environment, one that requires effective and ongoing leadership of teams to achieve high performance. We now have more management tools at our disposal than ever before, from advanced software to developing AI, but we have become less effective in the key skill of leadership.

The 4 day Lead programme:

The initial section of the course is run over 2 days back to back. It's then supported by 2 x 1 day modules. All modules can be run at a location of your choice.

Day 1: What is leadership?

The first day looks at what it means to be a leader from a practical perspective. The topics covered are as follows:

  • Sifting Intelligence from Information
  • Management versus Leadership
  • What is the Base of Power
  • Leadership styles
  • The Human Element
  • Using the OODA (observe, orientate, decide, act) loop

Evening Gathering: After the close of the first day the team will reconvene in the evening in a less formal setting for a series of facilitated conversations.

Day 2: Why should I follow you?

The second day focuses on how we effect real behavioural change in a team:

  • Communication for leaders
  • Enabling Resilience
  • Delivering the "in order to..."
  • What is High Performance?
  • Goal setting and measurement

Action plan: At the end of the session each delegate will receive a personal leadership action plan. Each participant will also have a one-on-one online debrief session with one of the Leadership Development Programme facilitators.

Follow on modules:

Following the initial 2 day programme each participant will take part in 2 one-day modules. These are delivered face to face and at a venue of your choice.

Leading change

In a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) environment: Humans are hard-wired to resist change - we thrive on routine and consistency. Unfortunately this creates very real challenges for leaders and organisations, who must necessarily evolve constantly, adapting to changing market places and environments. This module combines elements of management and leadership skills in order to equip participants to best deliver high performance results in changing environments.

Managing conflict

During this module participants will look at the human response to crisis and high pressure situations. They will understand how and why people respond in the way they do and how to lead to best effect in such circumstances.

Invest in your team

The initial 2 day Programme plus the 2 one-day Follow up Modules costs £15,000.00 + VAT (for up to 10 participants) excluding venue costs.

The recommended Additional Modules are each charged at £450.00 + VAT per person excluding venue costs (for a minimum of 5 participants and a maximum of 10 on any course).

If you believe that your team needs to develop skills particularly in any one of the initial Programme or Follow Up module topics, we can deliver individual days on the same basis as the Additional Modules.

Our Team

Sandstone Team members have considerable real world experience in leadership and resilience gained from business, the military and participation in expeditions and aid missions. No surprise then that we have wide experience also in teaching leadership and resilience. In addition, Mike and Tim have used their wide experience in First Aid training and practice to implement our hands-on First Aid training courses.
